Bladder cancer deal

New deals involving four district health boards and urologists in two other regions to use Pacific Edge's bladder cancer test could save hospitals millions of dollars.

The Dunedin cancer diagnostics company has signed a commercial agreement with the government-owned Health Innovation Hub.

The hub will make Pacific Edge's Cxbladder available for use by the four main DHBs - Auckland, Waitemata, Counties Manukau and Canterbury.

Pacific Edge has also signed a deal with urologists in the Bay of Plenty and the Lakes District to offer their patients Cxbladder, a non-invasive bladder cancer detection system marketed in Australasia, the United States and, soon, Spain.

Chief executive David Darling said the two deals meant the product could potentially be available to nearly three million New Zealanders.

"The key to this is that these organisations, particularly the urologists, are very keen to use our technology," Mr Darling said.

The deals were a step towards its goal of having Cxbladder mandated to be part of the standard of care, he said.
