NZ market makes slight gain

The New Zealand market was flat at close of trade on Tuesday, up just 1 point to 3121.

Top stocks were mixed. Telecom was down 7 cents to $2.71 per share, Fletcher Building rose 9c to $8.04, while Contact Energy fell 7c to $6.08.

Sky City Entertainment was unchanged at $3.24 but Sky Network Television rose 6c to $4.51.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was down 9c to $3.38, while Freightways climbed 9c to $3.06.

Retailers The Warehouse was up 3c to $4 and Hallenstein Glasson rose 7c to $2.87.

In Australia, the All Ordinaries gained 1.5% to hit an 11-month high of 4,528, while the ASX 200 gained 69 points to 4,524, the ABC website reports.

Japanese share prices rose for a second straight day, as investors remained hopeful that the global economy is heading toward a recovery, AFP reports.

The benchmark Nikkei-225 index climbed 72.29 points, or 0.70%, to 10,393.23. The broader Topix index of all first section shares gained 1.80 points, or 0.19%, to 946.40.
