Date of Tax Freedom Day calculated

11:49 am on 22 April 2010

Tax Freedom Day will this year fall on 17 May, according to the accounting firm Staples Rodway.

Tax Freedom Day is the first day of the year in which New Zealand has in theory earned enough income to pay its annual tax bill.

Staples Rodway say this year is later than similar days in Australia, the United States and Britain.

An estimated 37% of the nation's output will go to the Government.
