The Commerce Commission says conditions are improving in the telecommunications industry, but a small number of companies still dominate the market and prices remain a problem.

Telecommunications Commissioner, Ross Patterson, says monitoring shows competition in all telecommunications markets increased between 2006 - 2009.

He says the market in New Zealand remains concentrated in the hands of a few companies and the use of mobile phones for voice calls remains low by international standards.
