ANZ Bank to move to single computer system

7:08 am on 26 November 2010

ANZ New Zealand says it will move to a single computer system for its retail banks, ANZ and National Bank by late next year.

The Australian-owned bank says running two IT systems has resulted in a large amount of duplicated time and wasted effort.

ANZ also says customers will be able to make deposits in either bank without being slapped with a three dollar deposit transaction fee.

The Dominion Post and The New Zealand Herald report ANZ New Zealand denies the move means it will phase out the National bank brand, which has a strong connection to the rural sector and wealthier customers.

ANZ is the largest bank in New Zealand.
