TUANZ hopes for extension of deadline

The Telecommunications Users Association hopes the deadline for submissions on proposed changes to the Telecommunications Act will be extended to allow more time for scrutiny.

Submissions opened last year, but new amendments - relating to the possible separation of Telecom's operations - were released last week. Submissions are due to close on Friday.

The chief executive of TUANZ, Paul Brislen, says the timeframe to respond to the proposed changes is a problem and it's imperative more time is given.

He says many in the industry were surprised at the level of detail in the additional proposed changes.

Mr Brislen says TUANZ wants to make sure the legislation is robust.
