Coca-Cola Amatil says it had to ask some hard questions before it pushed ahead with plans to build a $15 million bottle manufacturing and filling operation in Christchurch.
The investment was approved before the earthquake in Christchurch on 22 February, which caused significant damage to its Woolston plant.
In a boost to the city, Coca-Cola Amatil managing director George Adams says the company's decided to go ahead with the project. The plant will be rebuilt and expanded.
Mr Adams says the decision is a major vote of confidence in the future of Christchurch as an economic hub.
Structural repair work on the plant is already under way and the company expects to commission the bottling technology in the next four to six weeks.
The production line will manufacture beverages for the entire South Island, and some for the North Island. It will produce up to 16,000 filled bottles an hour.
