Further Asia - NZ link being developed by Jetstar

12:25 pm on 12 April 2011

Jetstar expects to channel more tourists between Asia and New Zealand with a new trans-Tasman route linking the two destinations.

The Qantas subsidiary now flies between Auckland and Cairns three times per week.

It already flies from Auckland to Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

Jetstar chief executive David Hall says Cairns is a gateway to the fast developing tourism markets of Asia, and he would expect more visitors to New Zealand to fly via North Queensland.

He says Jetstar is now the largest low cost airline in South East Asia.
