US stocks close higher

Stocks in the United States rose on Friday as US inflation data showed prices rising in line with traders' expectations.

The Dow Jones Index rose 56 points, or 0.4%, to close at 12,341.

The Nasdaq Composite closed up 4 points, or 0.1%, to 2764.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 Index closed on Friday down 32 points, or 0.6%, at 4852.

The NZX 50 fell 1.7 points, less than 1%, to close at 3452 on Friday.

The New Zealand dollar on Monday morning was trading at 79.93 US cents, 75.67 Australian cents, 49.02 pence, 66.46 yen and 0.5536 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 69.27.

Brent crude oil was trading at $US125.47 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1486.05 per ounce.
