Jade Software reports loss

1:52 pm on 9 May 2011

Christchurch-based firm Jade Software has reported a loss due to a fall in sales in the northern hemisphere and a high New Zealand dollar.

The company has been moving away from its focus on one-off enterprise computer systems to providing software products in sectors like financial intelligence and ports.

Jade lost $849,000 in the year to the end of December, a turnaround from the previous year $417,000 profit.

Sales fell 5.5% to $44.1 million as customers in Europe and North America cut budgets in response to weak demand.

Revenue from traditional, mature sources is waning, and the company is spending more on developing new products like JOOB which allows staff access to a firm's computer systems when out of the office.
