New car registrations reached 4500 in May, up 6.5% from April, but almost 2% lower than a year earlier.
Used car registrations, generally for imported vehicles, rose 14% in the month, but were 5% lower than a year earlier.
The top selling make was Holden, followed by Hyundai.
