The value of houses in Auckland City has reached its highest level yet, surpassing the previous market peak of late 2007.

Quotable Value's latest figures show central Auckland house values are 0.7% above the previous record high.

That's leading the rise in national residential property values.

The average New Zealand sales price reached $412,746 for the last three months compared to $404,057 in the previous period.

QV research director Jonno Ingerson says the rise is steady in Auckland, while other cities lag behind.

Nationally, house values are 0.9% lower than in June last year and 5.2% below the market peak of late 2007.
