Woolworths keeps up gains

8:46 pm on 20 July 2011

Retailing giant Woolworths has continued to make solid gains in New Zealand, despite subdued consumer spending.

The firm, which is close to converting all its Woolworths and Foodtown chains to Countdown, says annual sales rose nearly 3.5% to $5.4 billion.

Woolworths director of supermarkets, liquor and petrol, Greg Foran, says it has taken market share from its competitor, Foodstuffs, with more people shopping at its Countdown stores, and buying more.
