A takeover of Norfolk Investments by private health operator Wakefield Health is now unconditional.

Wakefield has so far secured 86% of shares from Norfolk investors and is expecting to gain more.

Wakefield launched its takeover offer three weeks ago, offering $3.80 a share, valuing Norfolk at about $24 million.

Norfolk owns 60% of Grace Hospital in Tauranga, with the balance owned indirectly by Southern Cross Hospitals.

Wakefield Health chief executive Andrew Blair says the acquisition will give it more presence as a private health provider in the North Island.

Mr Blair says Wakefield Health has hospitals in Wellington and Hawke's Bay and is also looking to expand into Auckland.
