A Fonterra joint venture vehicle is planning to buy a pharmaceutical company in India.

DMV-Fonterra Excipients, which is a pharmaceutical lactose firm that Fonterra owns with Royal FrieslandCampina, a Dutch dairy company, is to buy Brahmar Cellulose Private for an undisclosed amount.

Brahmar Cellulose, which is based near Channai in India, manufactures ingredients used by the pharmaceutical industry to make tablets and pills.

DMV-Fonterra is already the world's number one supplier of lactose excipients - used in tablets, capsules and powders for medical inhalers.
