New Zealand market falls 21 points on Tuesday

The New Zealand sharemarket fell on Tuesday with the NZX 50 index down 21 points or 0.6% to 3202. Turnover was $57 million.

Among the major changes in shares: Fletcher Building fell 4 cents to $5.88, Telecom was up 2.5 cents at $2.025 and Contact was down 11 cents at $5.17.

NZ Refining lost 5 cents to end the day at $2.90, Sky City Entertainment was down 4 cents at $3.35 and Sky TV gained 4 cents to close at $5.24.

Fisher & Paykel Appliances was down half a cent at 33.5 cents and Rakon gained 1 cent to 47 cents.

Restaurant Brands was down 3 cents at $2.06, Pumpkin Patch was up 1 cent at 65 cents, and Hallenstein Glasson gained 5 cents to close at $3.41.

The Warehouse was down 1 cent at $3.10.

Abano Healthcare shares rose 18 cents to $3.85. The company announced on Tuesday it had made $600,000 in the six months to the end of November, a 72% decrease compared with the same period last year.

In currency markets, at 5.20pm the dollar was trading at 75.91 US cents, 76.45 Australian, 48.93 pence, 59.22 Yen, and 0.5837 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 68.23.
