The Government has set up a $7.5 million fund to help social service providers in Canterbury cope with the earthquake aftermath.

The Community Response Fund will provide one-off grants of between $5000 and $10,000 to community-based social services in the region.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says Canterbury's community organisations are doing a great job in incredibly difficult circumstances.

But they can only do so much with the resources they have and the Government wants to ensure they can continue to provide vital services and cope with increased demand.
