Damaged building being demolished

A four-storey Christchurch building which developed a lean after Saturday night's aftershock is being fast-tracked for demolition.

The Strategy Building which is at the intersection of Montreal and Victoria Streets had already been severely damaged in the earthquake on 22 February.

National Civil Defence Director John Hamilton says they had already been working with the owner about its state.

He says the owner has now agreed to its demolition and that process is underway.

Mr Hamilton says that means Montreal Street is closed north-bound from Armagh Street and it's likely to remain closed all next week.
