Fifty-five buildings have been added to the demolition list in earthquake-hit Christchurch and the number could rise again.
Civil Defence national controller Steve Brazier on Wednesday released an updated list totalling 348 buildings that were damaged in the quake on 22 February.
Mr Brazier says the list was compiled before Saturday's large aftershock and may not be totally accurate.
Historic buildings on the list include Knox Church and the Timeball Station in Lyttelton, both of which are to be partially demolished.
Meanwhile, asbestos has been found in in 12 Christchurch buildings damaged quake and measures have been introduced to ensure public safety.
Fletcher Building, which is co-ordinating the demolition and repair of damaged buildings, says qualified asbestos removal contractors have been hired and decontamination units are being used to ensure neighbours are not at risk.
The affected buildings include the Category 1 historic site, Cranmer Centre, which was formerly the home of Christchurch Girls' High School.
The building is beyond repair and will be demolished. Contractors Naylor Love Construction say all precautions have been taken.
Christchurch medical officer of health Alister Humphrey says he is not concerned about the discovery of asbestos. He says the only risk is for those carrying out the removal and they would wear protective gear.
