Stressful time for teachers

Some Christchurch high schools affected the earthquakes say teachers are working under increasingly stressful conditions.

Ten high schools are sharing premises, reducing their school day to four hours and classes to 45-minute sessions.

Cashmere High School principal Mark Wilson says the disruption is having a huge impact on teachers who are under pressure to condense the NCEA curriculum.

Mr Wilson says they are cramming the content into shorter time frames, but to learn properly, students need the time to reflect on what they've learnt and apply it.

He says the situation is far from ideal. Teachers are working overtime, having to prepare a lot more homework for students.
