Sumner slip must stay for now

Christchurch City Council says it is too dangerous at present for contractors to clear a large slip that came down near Sumner during last week's aftershocks.

The council says the slip on the lower section of Clifton Terrace is very unstable and is compromising a house above. It is not known when it will be cleared.

Alternative access is possible via Summit Road and the single-lane gravel road, Gethsemane Gardens, which will be sealed when the weather permits.

Meanwhile, part of Heberden Avenue in Sumner is also being closed at times this week, to allow engineers to inspect the rock face from a crane.
