Ministry taking fresh look at quake accommodation criterea

The Ministry of Social Development is taking another look at temporary accommodation assistance for Christchurch residents after it came to light that those in the red zone are ineligible.

The problem has been highlighted by Labour MPs, who say red-zoned home owners do not qualify for the assistance because it was intended for people who would return to live in their houses.

A spokesperson for the Minister for Earthquake Recovery says the criteria are being reviewed and all red zone residents will be part of the scheme.

Anyone needing assistance in the meantime is asked to contact Work and Income.
