Murals at youth centre

Young people from Wellington and Christchurch have worked together to create murals remembering those who died in the February earthquake.

The murals will be unveiled at a central city youth centre at 3.30pm on Thursday.

The South City Youth Centre in Christchurch is to reopen for the first time since the quake with several of its walls covered in colourful graffiti art exploring the ideas of faith, hope and love.

Wellington's Boys and Girls Institute youth worker Rod Baxter says seven boys from Wellington collaborated with about a dozen from Christchurch to create the murals.

Mr Baxter says that seeing the centre surrounded by demolished buildings has made the boys from Wellington realise how tough it has been for people living in Christchurch.

The centre is the second in the central city to reopen since the quake.
