Some of New Zealand's most high profile athletes at the Commonwealth Games are in action on Monday and are likely to add to the team's 17 medals.

Squash top seeds Joelle King and Paul Coll have played to the form book and will be vying for gold.

Medal favourite Laurel Hubbard is in the 90kg-plus women's weightlifting final.

The 40-year-old became the first transgender athlete to be named in a New Zealand Commonwealth Games team late last year.

The world champion shotputter Tom Walsh is in action at the main stadium, where he's the red hot favourite after throwing a Games record in qualifying for the final.

The flagbearer Sophie Pascoe is back in the pool, hoping to pick up another gold medal, this time in the para 100m Breaststroke.

The New Zealand women's hockey team also have a crunch game against Australia.
