Tens of thousands of people have already cast their votes ahead of election day, on Saturday 8 November.

The Electoral Enrolment Centre said on Wednesday 5 November 127,500 people had so far cast advance votes around New Zealand.

The option is available to anyone unable to visit a polling booth on the day.

The centre says the largest turnout has been in the electorates of Tauranga, Otaki and Wellington Central.

It says almost 198,000 people cast advance votes in the last election.
