Shadbolt wins sixth term as mayor

Updated at 9:11 pm on 9 October 2010

Tim Shadbolt has won a sixth term as Invercargill mayor.

Mr Shadbolt polled 16,275 votes compared with 5311 for Suzanne Prentice.

A third aspirant, Carl Heenan, polled 669 votes.

Mr Shadbolt says Ms Prentice didn't run a very good campaign.

He says she failed to get traction and was scared to debate him in public.

Ms Prentice says she asked the voters to back her campaign for change and they obviously did not want change.

She says she's happy with the way she campaigned.

Ms Prentice says she has thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt a great deal about the city, about the people and about myself.

Meanwhile, Tracy Hicks has been elected unopposed as mayor for Gore.
