New Zealand boxer Alexis Pritchard has become the country's first female boxer to win a bout at the Olympics.
Pritchard and New Zealand's other female boxer Siona Fernandes helped make history on the first day of the women's boxing - the first time any women's boxing has been included at an Olympic Games.
Pritchard fought strongly against Tunisia's Rim Jouini in the lightweight division to win on points 15-10 and secure a place in the quarter-finals.
The New Zealander won the first round of the bout 4-3 but Jouini took the second 4-2, before Pritchard fought back to win the third 5-1 and the fourth 4-2.
Pritchard appeared to have been knocked down in the final round but the referee judged it was a slip.
She will now meet the second seed, Russia's Sofya Ochigava, in the quarter-finals on Monday.
Fernandes did not have such a successful fight, losing to Bulgaria's Stoyka Petrova in the first round of the flyweight event.
Fernandes was well-beaten on points, 23-11.
The tournament is run in an elimination format, meaning boxers have just one chance to win their bout and advance to the next round.
