Adams left off initial shot put start list

New Zealand officials are blaming an administrative error for keeping Valerie Adams' name off the initial starting line-up for the women's shot put at the London Olympics.

The start-list posted on the official Olympic site overnight did not include the 2008 Beijing Games gold medal winner, but the problem has now been fixed.

Olympic committee members quickly got her name on the competition list so she could continue with her preparation.

A spokesperson for the New Zealand Olympic Committee, Ashley Abbott, says Adams is aware of the matter but is focussed on competition.

And chef de mission Dave Currie says the main thing is that Adams is now preparing for the event without any distractions.

"The first thing was to make sure that she was competing," says Currie. "Clearly, any uncertainty around that is not helpful".

He says once the competition is over there will be a full investigation to find out how the error happened.

Qualifying heats for the women's shot put starts this evening, New Zealand time.

A three-time world champion, Adams won gold at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and Delhi respectively, and currently holds the world indoor, Continental Cup and Diamond League titles.

She is the favourite to take out the Olympic title again.
