New Zealand won its 100th Olympic medal on Wednesday with sailors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke taking a silver in the 49er class at the London Games.
It is 104 years since the country's first Olympic medal was won by walker Harry Kerr at the 1908 Games, also held in London.
The 49er crew of Burling (skipper) and Tuke were too far ahead of the chasing pack to be overhauled for second in the final medal race off Weymouth, but were too far behind the first-placed Australian crew to win gold.
In the medal race on Wednesday, they came second with 80 points behind Austrians Nico Delle Karth and Nikolaus Resch in a time of 29min 34s.
Overall, Australia won gold with 56 points, while Denmark took bronze with 114 points.
New Zealand's medal tally stands at 10 - the target set by the New Zealand Olympic Committee before this year's Games.
Burling and Tukes' silver medal is New Zealand's second of these Games, to go with the three gold won in rowing and five bronze.
New Zealand's 100 medals is made up of 40 gold, 19 silver and 41 bronze, and the tally is likely to be added to over the next few days.
The women's hockey team, the Black Sticks, will play for the bronze medal after losing to the Netherlands after the game was force into a penalty shootout on Wednesday.
In sailing, the 470 crew of Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie are also guaranteed a place on the podium going into the medal race on Friday.
