Cyclist Phillipa Gray and her pilot Laura Thompson won gold in the 3000m individual B pursuit at the Paralympics in London on Sunday beating the world champions from Ireland.

The pair set a world record time of 3.31.50 in qualifying, taking five seconds off the previous world record.

Gray and Thompson have now won a gold and a bronze in London.

''It's definitely a better colour than bronze and it just feels amazing,'' said Gray afterwards. ''I don't even think it's sunk in yet. Nothing feels real.''

Grey said she wants more in the future now she has a taste.

''It's a pretty special feeling you do want to replicate and keep trying to achieve,'' she said.

Gray later told Morning Report that they had been slower than their rivals from Ireland at earlier events, but peaked at the right time in London to claim the medal.

New Zealand's medal tally is now 11: four gold, three silver and four bronze.
