Retired New Zealand cricketer player Chris Cairns has told the High Court in London that he feels angry and saddened at allegations of match fixing.

Cairns is suing Lalit Modi for libel over a comment the former Indian Premier League commissioner posted on Twitter in January 2010 that referred to the former player's "record in match-fixing".

The barrister acting for Cairns asked him how he felt about being accused as a "match fixer and a corruptor of young players".

The former New Zealand captain said he was angry and saddened.

The lawyer acting for Lalit Modi asked Cairns to explain money paid into his Dubai bank account.

Cairns told the court the funds were payment for his public relations work for an Indian diamond company.

Cairns has finished giving evidence and his wife is among three witnesses expected to take the stand on Wednesday.

Lalit Modi is expected to give evidence on Thursday. The court will also hear from former South African player Andrew Hall who is giving evidence for Modi.
