Tertiary institutions brace for cuts

11:12 am on 29 March 2012

Tertiary institutions are hoping they have done enough to to meet government performance targets and avoid funding cuts.

Polytechnics, wananga, universities and private providers have been cutting courses and improving student support as they strive to meet the new targets and avoid losing up to 5% of their funding.

How they measure up against indicators including course and qualification completion rates will be finalised in the next two months.

Those who did worst last year say they have improved by cutting poorly performing courses and giving some students more support.
