Suspended prison manager back at work

3:17 pm on 22 September 2008

A Rimutaka Prison unit manager who accompanied a government minister on an overseas rugby trip while suspended from his job has returned to work.

The officer was suspended on pay during an inquiry into corruption at the prison.

Jim Morgan caused a controversy for the Government last year when it was revealed he had accompanied then corrections minister, Damien O'Connor, on a parliamentary rugby team trip to France while under suspension.

Mr O'Connor's text-message resignation was rejected by Prime Minister Helen Clark, but he no longer holds the corrections portfolio.

The Department of Corrections would not discuss details of the employment investigation, but confirmed that Mr Morgan was back at work.
