Plea for Asian community to work more closely with police

5:13 pm on 28 September 2008

The Asian Council on Reducing Crime says the Asian community needs to work more closely with the police.

Between 4,000 and 5,000 people attended an Asian Community Safety Expo at a Buddhist temple in East Tamaki on Saturday.

The aim was to help people increase their knowledge about what is available and what they can do to prevent crime.

Rosa Chow, the organiser and the council's chairperson, says many are keen to learn how to work with the police to keep their community safe.

She says the police alone are not the solution, and they need community support.
