Five Rimutaka Prison inmates have appeared in a Lower Hutt court on charges relating to an attack on a prison guard.
Arthur Briggs, Hamiora Moke, Regan Cross, Elise Tuese and Brock Norton appeared on Wednesday on a variety of assault charges relating to the incident.
The men, aged between 19 and 28, were involved in a fight at the Upper Hutt prison on 1 June this year in which a guard was seriously injured.
The man was trying to help another inmate who had been attacked by the five accused.
None of the men entered a plea on Wednesday and will remain in prison until they reappear on 25 July.
