MetService is warning of possible heavy rain in western Bay of Plenty and the Coromandel Peninsula.
The agency is forecasting up to 60mm of rain in some places from midday on Saturday to midnight.
It says this is not enough to post an official warning, but the area is saturated from heavy rain earlier this week and it could cause problems.
It says the situation is being monitored.
Too wet for burials
Burials at Gisborne's main cemetery have been stopped because the ground is too saturated.
Gisborne District Council has decided to hold off on burials until the rain lets up.
It has been raining in the city for a week and MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for the area for Saturday evening.
Evans Funeral Services says it is the first time burials have had to be postponed because of soaked grounds.
