Police are advising motorists of delays following a fatal crash at Pokeno, south of Auckland.
The incident happened just after 8pm on Tuesday on a northbound lane of the motorway near the State Highway 2 junction.
A spokesperson says a truck and car collided, leaving one person dead.
Diversions were put in place on State Highway 1 north and south of Pokeno, and at the end of State Highway 2.
The northbound on-ramp at Helenslee Road was closed and all vehicles were being diverted north via Tuakau on the Whangarata road.
