Police in Northland say there may be other victims in a case where a teacher was sexually abusing his pupils.

James Robertson Parker, 37, who was deputy principal of Pamapuria School south of Kaitaia, was convicted in Kaitaia District Court on Wednesday on 49 charges of indecent assault and unlawful sexual connection involving a dozen boys aged 11 - 13.

Police say further disclosures have come to light and Parker may face more charges. They say the investigation remains open.

Parker is to be sentenced on 15 November. He is being held in custody.

Police warned the school about him in 2009, but nothing was done.
