A dentist in Auckland has pleaded guilty to false accounting and the dishonest use of documents in a case brought by the Ministry of Health.

Sanjay Govind Sathe appeared before Manukau District Court on Wednesday and was remanded for sentencing.

The ministry said an investigation found Sathe's Howick practice had falsely claimed payment for after-hours treatments that either did not take place or the claim was different to the treatment provided.

Sathe has paid more than $94,000 to Counties Manukau District Health Board. Of this, $49,200 was paid as reparation, and the rest in civil liability.
