Fire crews leave freezing works

9:11 am on 28 December 2008

The Fire Service in Auckland says it will leave the scene of a week-long fire at the Southdown freezing works in Penrose.

The fire started at about 6pm on Saturday, 20 December. Crews have been on-watch there all week and were still dampening hotspots on Saturday, 27 December.

The Fire Service says any evidence to pinpoint the cause may well have been destroyed.

The site will now be handed to the Auckland City Council for a cleanup.
