Body from stolen dinghy recovered

8:45 pm on 26 October 2012

The body of a man missing for more than a week after the stolen dinghy he was in capsized off the Tauranga coast has been found.

Shaun Hogarth, 23, disappeared when the boat he was in with three others sank near Motuhoa Island on 16 October.

Police called off their search last Friday but his family continued it privately.

A member of the public found the body six days later in kneedeep water on the western side of the Omokoroa Peninsula.

Police have notified Mr Hogarth's family and formally identified the body.

Two men who survived, Dylan Baxter and Samuel Butler, have since been charged with the theft of a boat.

Police are trying to find another, Liam Kane, whom they say has breached his home detention.
