12:06 pm on 14 January 2009

A woman has been found safe and well after being missing since 3 January.

Tourists spotted a car driven by Jessica Roberts, 28, of Cromwell, at the end of a track, near Haast, which leads from State Highway Six, to an abandoned quarry near the Haast River.

Police were called at about 6pm on Tuesday and an officer was searching the car when he heard a call by Ms Roberts.

She was about 100 metres away in dense scrub. It's not clear how long she had been at the location.

Ms Roberts is being treated in Dunedin Hospital. Police say she suffers from mental illness.

Her father Rian ( says she spent two days in her car before venturing into thick bush and becoming disoriented.

Mr Roberts says she spent the next eight nights outdoors, with only brackish water to drink and strawberries bought the day she went missing.
