A man injured during a fight outside a bar in South Canterbury has died.
Dale Robert Bellaney was injured outside the Crown Hotel in Temuka about 8.45pm on Saturday and died at Christchurch Hospital on Tuesday morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Marion Neill, of Timaru, says police are treating the 39-year-old's death as suspicious.
Ms Neill says police are trying to establish how Mr Bellaney was injured, but it is too early to speculate on what happened.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.
Ms Neill says it is believed a number of vehicles drove past the hotel about the time of the incident and police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on Wednesday.
