Restraining order lifted

The sister of Charlene Makaza can now be with her father and brother after a Family Court judge lifted a restraining order against them.

George Gwaze and his son had been restricted from contact with Charmaine Gwaze, 17, the sister of Charlene, 10, who died in Christchurch in January 2007.

In lifting the order involving Charmaine, the judge also cancelled a guardianship order for her.

In May, George Gwaze, the girls' uncle and adoptive father, was found not guilty for the second time of Charlene's rape and murder.

It has also emerged that three years ago, after the first trial which found Mr Gwaze not guilty, the same Family Court judge ruled, on the balance of probabilities, that Charlene had been sexually abused and killed by a member of her family.
