Representatives from New Zealand's Student Volunteer Army have gone to New York to help clean up the mess from a devastating super-storm.
At least 120 people were killed in the United States as a result of Sandy, including 43 in New York.
The storm came ashore in New Jersey on 29 October, after killing at least 69 people in the Caribbean, including 54 in Haiti and 11 in Cuba when it was classed as a hurricane.
The group's operations manager, Jason Pemberton, says he and another army member arrived in New York on Friday after being asked to help by American-based volunteer organisation Global DIRT.
Mr Pemberton says they will draw on their experience responding to the recent Christchurch earthquakes, including the fatal tremor in February 2011, to coordinate efforts of various volunteer groups.
Student Volunteer Army members also went to Japan last year to help coordinate student volunteers in the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March.
