A baby boy hospitalised on Sunday after allegedly being assaulted is now in a stable condition, but remains critically ill.
The 10-week-old was flown to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland on Tuesday night for advanced specialist care, after his condition deteriorated.
Police say he was taken to Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit on Sunday, when family members in Lower Hutt thought he seemed unwell.
A 28-year-old family member is due to appear before the Lower Hutt District Court on Thursday to face an assault charge.
