Air NZ drops last trans-Tasman service from Hamilton

Air New Zealand is to stop flying to Australia from Hamilton airport from April this year.

The national carrier says it is suspending the Hamilton-Brisbane flight because it is no longer viable.

In October, the airline announced an end to its flights from Hamilton to the Gold Coast and Sydney.

It says loadings out of Hamilton to Brisbane have averaged 58% over the past three months, which is clearly unstainable in the current economic climate.
