The father of Scott Guy says knowing Ewen Macdonald won't be released on parole for at least another year is one less challenge to face.
Macdonald was found not guilty of Mr Guy's murder in July, but was jailed for five years for other offences, including arson, vandalism and killing calves.
At a parole hearing on Tuesday the Parole Board said it was not satisfied he did not pose an undue risk to the community and turned down his application.
Bryan Guy told Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme the family is focusing on rebuilding their lives and would have been disappointed if Macdonald had been allowed out.
