The police dive squad has recovered the body of a man from Matakatia Bay in Whangaparaoa.
Emergency services have been searching the area, north of Auckland, after a man in his late 20s failed to surface while diving with four friends on Saturday afternoon.
The dive squad found a body - which is still to be formally identified - at about 1pm on Sunday.
