Police have revealed a man fatally shot in the stomach in an Auckland suburb was seeking a career in the force.
Alex Mark Ulu, 23, was shot outside his house in Flatbush on 2 January and died of his injuries in hospital last Friday.
Police say he had recently moved to Auckland from Wellington and was working in the construction industry but had also applied to pursue a career as a policeman.
A homicide investigation is under way.
The firearm used, which police say is a cut-down rifle, is also being examined.
